Mel martinez (florida governor) resign - Senator Mel Martinez (R-FL) “will announce that he is resigning his seat,” three GOP sources tell CNN.

Earlier this year, Martinez had said he would not run for re-election in 2010. Under Florida law, Republican Governor Charlie Crist, himself running for the seat, gets to appoint a successor until the next general election.
